Description – Leather Glove Making Course
Due to the Covid-19 situation our Glove Making Course with Riina O’ won’t be running this year. Please check back for the course date in 2021
Join us for this exciting opportunity to attend a leather glove making course with guest tutor and professional glove maker, Riina Õun.
We will be hosting the 3 day course at our workshop, while Riina shares her enthusiasm, passion and in-depth knowledge of leather glove making.
Riina describes her glove making work as ‘a beautiful, meticulous craft‘ and has been introducing the skill to students around the world. She has also been working with some of the world’s top academic institutions, including:
Royal Academy of Arts in London
Fashion Institute of Technology in New York
London College of Fashion
Accademia Koefia in Rome
She has also worked with the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, and has travelled as far as China to teach her glove making skills.
A note from Riina…
Hand crafting soft leather gloves is a centuries old skill, going back to the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, during the last half century the tradition has started to vanish due to the labor-intensiveness and mechanisation of the process. Only a few skilled professionals around the world are currently practicing the art of making gloves by hand.
During the 3-day glove making workshop the students will learn about the rich history of gloves. They will try out different decorative and edge stitches whilst acquiring the skills of working with specific glove leather. The students will learn to adjust the standard glove patterns to fit their own hand and will hand-stitch their first glove by the end of the third day. Students will leave the course with the skills to complete the second glove at home. In order to attend the course, students should have some experience of hand-sewing leather.
