Description

The UK 36 page leatherwork magazine for hobbyists of the craft, includes 3 step-by-step Projects, 3 Pattern Pages articles, features and How To’s.

Project 1 in issue #9 is a useful Gardener’s Pocket – you can easily tweak the design to suit your preference.  Contributors Bruce Moss and Matthew Norman have each shared a pattern for a gardening tool cover and sticking with the theme of hobbies, Project 2 is a made-to-measure binocular case which is intended to be a little challenging so perfect if you’re ready for creating your own pattern.

Page 7, Buying Leather, looks at the different qualities of veg and chrome tanned leather and encourages readers to consider working with both. Page 19 ponders the question of whether to stitch by hand or machine – the Ditty Bag pattern conributed by Rob Exton is suited to either method and by inceasing its size, is suited to storing tools for almost any hobby!

Beginners will find a ‘How To…’ for a made-to-measure, adjustable shoulder strap and if you’re looking to try out some new methods of stitching, we’ve included both butt and baseball stitch, either of which can be used for the leather Tube on page 30.

We’ve spent time with Sarah from Williams Handmade and you can read all about her exquisite leather boxes on the ‘Interview With…’ pages. There’s also a double-page Q&A with Nigel Armitage as he shares some insight from his new book on Belts and there’s a very encouraging article from contributor Angela Pitcher-Dowdell on the subject of design-confidence which is well worth a read if you’re about to plan a new leatherwork project.

As always, we’ve included the Readers’ Workbench page where you can see what’s been selected for this issue of WTT.  The quiz on the Just For Fun page has been created by reader Sue Reece, where she challenges you to test your leatherworking knowledge.

And if you’re looking for suppliers of leather, tools, threads and other supplies, you’ll find plenty of choice on the advertising pages of WTT.
