Leather training and tuition for beginners
Leatherwork training and tuition for beginners: We’re often asked which of our leatherwork training programmes or classes would be the most the suitable for a complete beginner. The information below states which are aimed at beginner, intermediate or advanced levels. Three have been designed specifically with beginners in mind. Read on for more detail…
If you’re planning to take up leatherwork as a new hobby then the ‘Leatherwork Weekend Taster’ would be a good choice as it teaches skills which can easily be practised and developed at home in your workshop, garden shed, or spare room. This is a beginners level course and is suitable for everyone.
If you’d prefer a one day introductory programme covering information regarding tools and materials, then the ‘Introduction to Leatherwork’ would be ideal. You can also make a small project while you’re learning new skills which will enable you to carry on making leather projects at home.
Perhaps you like the idea of making one item just for the satisfaction of making and completing a project – In that case the two day ‘Leather Bag Making’ (or the ‘Leather Satchel’ ) would be ideal as you’re guaranteed to leave our workshop with your new tote, messenger or satchel, fully completed and ready to use! These two beginners level weekends are very popular, so book early!
Our one day ‘Leather Mask Making’ is for the artistic folk but in a more ‘sculptural’ way. This is an arty leather-working day for beginners and aside from being lots of fun, we think very therapeutic too. No previous experience of art, or leatherwork is needed to enjoy the day.
‘Design. Develop. Make.’ is perfect if you want to plan and design your own leather work project – it’s ideally suited as a next step up from beginners level, but not strictly an intermediate level programme as beginners can learn the basics as they work. You will be very surprised by what can be achieved over the four days!
Finally, the ‘Intensive Leatherwork Programme’ is for those of you who are serious about progressing your leather work skills to a higher level. This is an intermediate-advanced level course. It consists of a full week of tuition (with an ‘Open Workshop Day, mid week) helping you to gain a wide variety of skills and putting these into practice by designing and embarking on your own project, which will need to be completed at home. If you are a complete beginner but still want to attend this course, you would need to contact us before booking. NB: The Intensive Leatherwork programme is undergoing an overhaul; new dates to be added in 2023.
